Stores

We are committed to helping protecting and preserving the environment. Most of our stores recycle your used oil and batteries, and some also accept used oil filters and antifreeze. All of our recycling programs are conducted with concern for the health and safety of our communities, and strict adherence to state and federal laws. Be a responsible consumer! Bring your used oil, oil filters, antifreeze, and batteries to our CHECKER, SCHUCK'S, KRAGEN or MURRAY'S stores. Also be sure to check out all of our other in-store services that are available to our customers in addition to recycling.

Let's work together to preserve a clean and healthy environment for future generations.

Used oil
Your used oil is accepted at over 1,200 Checker, Schuck’s, Kragen and Murray’s locations in 22 states. Oil is collected in tanks and picked up regularly by a recovery company. It is then reprocessed to make products like industrial and marine fuels, base oils and asphalt. Since 1990, CSK Auto has collected over 32 million gallons of used oil, greatly reducing the amount disposed of improperly every day.

Returned oil filters
Once you return your used oil filter, they are drained of free-flowing oil and recycled into new steel products such as cans, cars, appliances, and construction materials. Not all CSK stores can accept used filters yet, but we hope to expand this program to include as many communities as possible.

Spent lead-acid batteries
Batteries collected at CSK stores are picked up regularly by our battery manufacturer, Exide Corporation. Exide delivers the batteries to smelter facilities where a battery breaker unit separates the lead, plastic and acid. Recovered lead and plastic are sent back into the economy, not into the environment, and are used to make new finished products.

Spent antifreeze
Used antifreeze is recycled through a distillation process, yielding reusable coolants for automotive and industrial applications. The recycling of antifreeze is a new program at CSK, and is available in only a very limited number of our stores at this time.
